About Us

The Klamath Lake Land Trust advocates for South Central Oregon’s forest, wetlands, deserts, and watersheds, through restoration, land acquisition, conservation easements, ecologically informed land management, and public education.

The Klamath Lake Land Trust, founded in 2010 by a group of forward-thinking community members, focuses on maintaining the region’s special natural resources and way of life. Governed by a local Board of Directors, it is a private, non-profit organization that partners with landowners, government agencies, other nonprofits, and local communities to conserve critical lands. KLLT works to establish a network of permanently conserved land that encompasses important rivers and streams, wetlands, wildlife corridors, and large expanses of intact habitat.

KLLT is a young organization that gets things done! Already, we have worked with willing landowners toconserve almost 600 acres of valuable open space in the Klamath Basin. We are a determined group. It’s the only way we know how to be and it’s what will keep us here for years to come. We stretch one dollar into two because we can’t continue our mission any other way.

Our Mission

The purposes of the Klamath Lake Land Trust are exclusively those allowed for non-profit organizations defined under Sec. 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Within these limits, the primary purpose of Klamath Lake Land Trust is:

A. To advocate for the conservation, protection and restoration of South Central Oregon’s forests, wetlands, deserts, and watersheds. KLLT uses land acquisition, conservation easements, ecologically informed land management, and public education strategies to sustain and improve the ecological and cultural values provided by South Central Oregon’s wildlands.

B. To work with government, landowners, local communities, and other interested parties to promote conservation and restoration of the natural environment, with special emphasis on establishing a network of permanently conserved land that encompasses important rivers and stream, wetlands, wildlife corridors and large expanses of intact habitat.

Our Vision

The Upper Klamath Basin today is graced by free-flowing rivers and wetlands with an abundance of fish and wildlife. In its vast tracks of open, mixed-conifer forests and sagebrush steppe, hikers, hunters, anglers and others can track mule deer, pronghorn antelope, native Redband trout, and much more.

It is a landscape of great natural beauty. It’s also a region that presently experiences regional water shortages and competing needs for scarce resources – a condition that may worsen in the coming years.

The Klamath Lake Land Trust aims to secure the region’s health in perpetuity for current and future generations. We’re working to ensure that the future of the Upper Klamath Basin will include healthy rivers, forests, and steppe, in concert with environmentally sustainable and economically viable stock grazing and forestry enterprises.

Seven generations from today, future hikers and hunters will shoulder a pack and head out on the trail to encounter the open wild. Seven generations from today, open lands and outdoor experiences will continue to define a way life in this region.
