Advertising U! Workshops
This series - Advertising U - is designed to help businesspeople make informed decisions when building a winning advertising strategy. It will exemplify the differences between various media choices and describe how each may have a place in your plan, your marketing message and what you can expect to have happen because of it. It will also show how satellites can really screw up an otherwise good system of distributing television content in secondary markets like the Klamath Basin. Anyone responsible for creating effective advertising will benefit from these workshops. These workshops are not meant for members of the media.
All workshops will be held at The Brockway Agency, 1410 S. 6th Street, from 11:45 am to 1 pm. Classes are $5.00 and participants are encouraged to bring their lunch. Pre-registration is required - call (541) 884-5193.
January 27, 2010 - You Can't Execute a Plan Unless You Have One: As business owners and upper-level managers, we pride ourselves on having the ability to do a variety of things well - and often simultaneously; that's just part of being a busy entrepreneur. But who has time to sit down and write a formal advertising plan? Believe it or not, you do! All it takes is a pencil, a piece of paper, and about six points to ponder - and you should do it every time you make an ad.
February 10, 2010 - Analog vs. Digital, Cable vs. Satellite, Over the Air vs Over My Head! Making the Right Choice: This ones makes broadcast engineers pause before they answer the question. If you've ever wondered how your TV commercial gets delivered to the masses using cable, satellite, and a plain old over-the-air antenna, then join the club. Imagine how impressed your friends will be when they actually get to see your commercial on TV! And you didn't have to spend a fortune airing it. It can be done.
February 24, 2010 - Web site versus Web Advertising; or, Advertising in the Yellow Pages: What an Oxymoron: If you think that having a Web site means that you are advertising on the Web then my friend, we need to talk. Advertising, by definition, is meant to reach a specific group, convey information, and cause action to occur - whether it's on the web or on the phone - but simply having a Web presence does not mean that you are advertising. Regarding directories, replace the word Web with Yellow Pages.
March 17, 2010 - If Only I Had Wal-Mart's Budget, Then I'd Really Advertise: Believe it or not, even Wal-Mart can't advertise everywhere. Okay, maybe they could for a while but would it make sense? Not to a former client, Tombstone Chuck, it wouldn't. We all have limits to what we can afford to spend on advertising. Learn how to tell what you can afford, and when to say no.
March 24, 2010 - Tweet, Tweet - in Your Facebook - it's MySpace Not Yours: Everybody is using Viral Marketing these days but doesn't the term just make you want to wash your hands? Besides, I've got enough on my plate as it is - now I have something new to learn - not today, thanks anyway. Believe it or not, you really might like learning this new trick and all you have to do is let your fingers do the talking.
May 12, 2010 - Any Advertising is Good Advertising. Oh Really?: Whoever said, "Any advertising is good advertising" was really really lazy. A good advertising message, delivered to the right group of people, can do wonderful things for your bottom line. So why wouldn't the inverse be true too? It is, yet most people put just enough effort into creating an ad to end up with mediocre results. Kick it up a notch with a little drill that will guide you and reward your effort on the bottom line.
