THE 2nd BATTLE AT MOORE PARK
August 6th, 2008
The roar of Civil War canon and the report of muskets and pistols will fill the air at the Battle Of Moore Park this August 16th and 17th. Moore Park, on Lakeshore Drive, in Klamath Falls, is slipping back in time to the 1860's and the American Civil War, with full encampments of Northerns, Southerns and period Civilian camps right out of the history books. There will be period merchants, called, "Sutlers" setting up their tents and selling their wares to all. A horse camp will fill with period buggies and rigs and 1860's horse cavalry.
Two civil war battles will take place each day with Federal and Confederate units facing off against each other on Saturday at 11AM and 3PM, and again on Sunday at 11PM and again at 2PM. Living history events will taking place both days with 1860's period hospital demonstrations, infantry drills, (some set up for kids to try their skills at,) a Court Marshal and execution, a period mail call with letters from home that are read aloud to the public, some of these are very funny, while other letters touch the heart and bring a tear to the eye. There will be Southern and Northern military and even Civilian camps that visitors can walk through and see what life was like during the Civil War. Plus, several period merchants, or Sutlers as they were called then, will be setting up their tents for everyone to peruse and find unique items to purchase. On Sunday morning at 9:30AM there will be a Civil War period, nondenominational Church service that is open to all who come to the event. Also, you won't go hungry, the Doris Lyons Club will have Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and refreshments for sale both days of the event.
